Typo in BAMS Article

For those who tried to reproduce the color maps from the BAMS article: I have to appologize that there is a small typo. Fix can be found here.

Dear user

For those who tried to reproduce the color palettes from the BAMS paper “Somewhere over the rainbow“: there is a typo in table SB1 concerning the second hue for figure 4c. The second (last) hue should be 320 instead of 230 as I wrote in the article. Thanks to Evan who pointed it out. For R-users: below you can get the code we used to create the color palette (plus the one with the “wrong hue” as printed in the article):

# - Loading library
library('colorspace')
# - Define "correct color palette"
palA <- hcl(h = rep(seq(80, 320, length.out = 4), c(4, 3, 3, 3)),
            c = rep(seq(20, 65, length.out = 4), c(4, 3, 3, 3)),
            l =  92 - 55 * seq(0, 1, length.out = 13)^1.3)
# - Define "wrong color palette"
palB <- hcl(h = rep(seq(80, 230, length.out = 4), c(4, 3, 3, 3)),
            c = rep(seq(20, 65, length.out = 4), c(4, 3, 3, 3)),
            l =  92 - 55 * seq(0, 1, length.out = 13)^1.3)
# - Demo plot
par(mfrow=c(2,1),xaxt='n',yaxt='n',mar=c(1,1,3,1))
image( matrix(1:13), col = palA, main = "'correct' color palette")
image( matrix(1:13), col = palB, main = "'wrong' color palette")

However, the “wrong” version does not violate the concept presented in the paper. The only difference is that the hue only changes between 80-230 (blueish) while the presented figure 4c is using hue’s between 80-320 (violetish).

Sorry for any inconvenience caused by this typo! All best, Reto
